Finally a few warm sunny days and the Lake is warming up some.
It was a joy to see so many children taking sailing lessons, even in weather that wasn't ideal. About 14 youngsters completed the 2 week session. We are thankful to Wells College again for lending us their Sunfish and also to the Fefers, Marty and Nancy, for taking their vacation time to help out. A special thanks to Bob Sloan for being an excellent instructor and his better half, Ann, for her help and support.
The food in our kitchen has been fantastic! Thank you Kevin, Bridgett and staff for your culinary expertise but especially for your flexibility and friendliness. You are all a breath of fresh air.
Those of you who have generously volunteered to stain picnic tables, we will do those when we close as we never know this summer when we will have some good drying weather.
We do need everyone to clean up after themselves. Too many wine bottles and other residue left around by adults, especially on entertainment nights. The Steward is not here to clean up after us. Children be sure to put lake toys away and hang up your life jackets. If you can't reach ask an adult. We will lower the hooks for you.
Enjoy every minute of everyday because You Can!
As ever, Adele

     The Glass is Half Full!
What a great choice we all made of where to spend our free time in central NY this summer, we’re very fortunate to have OYC for our own personal retreat. Yes, the glass half empty people say the weather could be a little better, but we glass half full people aren’t complaining. Well maybe a slight whine for the lack of good sailing conditions on race days. It took us two weekends to finish the Colonel Pete July 4th Regatta!
The glass has certainly been more than half full in our Ship’s Store this summer. The staff from Daut’s has been cooking up a storm, no pun intended, and serving us great food with good service and prices. Many of us have enjoyed having Friday night dinners available again too.
The board of directors has been working hard to keep the Club in tip top shape, and yours truly has been busy handling new member requests in a timely manner. On that note, I hope you all enjoyed the annual Member’s Handbook. Sorry if there were any typos or errors I may have missed. The one I know of is omitting Beth Butera as the assistant to the Treasurer – sorry Beth. And speaking of Buteras, the board welcomes John Jr. who stepped up to help care for Club buildings.
I’m sure you’ve all noticed the nice new picnic tables we got this year, they’re a nice addition. We’ve had good attendance at the social functions and hope everyone will continue to support them through the rest of the season. Don’t forget that there is a selection of items that can be individually ordered. I’ve seen people wearing new club logo merchandise and they look nice.
A lot more can be said about all the glass half full things that have taken place this summer, but I think I’d rather go watch another spectacular sunset off the deck – with a glass half empty!
Louise Wilson              Club Secretary (and Unofficial Club Photographer)
P.S. I’m the crazy person you see running around with a camera all the time. Sorry but I can’t help it, it’s an obsession. If there’s anyone who REALLY doesn’t want their photo included in a possible club slide show, please let me know. I’m very good about deleting shots that are unflattering, so no need to worry about that. Unless you’re in the witness protection program – you’re fair game!!

OYC Boatlift Wait List

Thank yous go to Member crews who have helped on projects this summer; Oar refurbishing led by
Ron Bachta, Ray Cornwall, Tom Klink, Frank Reginelli, South dock fix and fit crew Rich Knaul, JJ Butera, Ken and
Kris Catino, Alex Batson, Don Devine, Tom Palmer, Joe and Joe Giacona. Also thanking Tom Genkos and Frank Flaherty,
Paul Bryan, Carman Zeolla, Marty and Nancy Feffer And Steve Kraatz for his boat and trailer use, Margaret Murray
ecals, and Steve Vincent and Bob Sloan.
CLUB BOAT USE: For Safety reasons 4 steps; put name and time in the sign out book across from kitchen window and report to the lifeguards before you leave and when you get back, and finally sign back in after the equipment is put back correctly. MEMBERS of ALL AGES must wear life vest when using club boats. A waterproof whistle attached to a life vest is a good safety precaution for all ages, the lifeguards control 3 whistles for club boat use. They are in an orange box just inside the door on the top shelf of the Men’s room.
Please report any problems you have to the lifeguards, Jonnie the steward, or to the waterfront director (phone call/email) so things ready for the next person.
Tips and Reminders:
# Visitors that ‘boat in’ to visit members are asked to leave their boats on the windward side of the North dock to allow
save docking of sail boaters coming into the wind to the dock. Also be considerate of spacing when parking your boat, keep
close move toward land if docking long.
# When Parking for Events, be considerate of the members that trailer their boats by not parking in front of their assigned
spots in upper parking lot or in the turn around. This has been a problem for the last several events. This is a stated club
policy. Any damage to the boater’s boat, trailer, or car is your fault not theirs if you chose to park incorrectly just to save steps.
# Shore craft owners should empty the water so mosquito larvae don’t grow in
the rainwater.
# Boaters and picnickers please leave the shore area cleaner than you found it.
#Yellow floats just off shore are for all members to rig or unrig their boats so as not to damage a neighbor’s boat. Beneath
the float are lines to attach to your craft, also good for ‘parking’ your boat for a short time.
# Bring and wear your life jackets! Orange Club life jackets are available to borrow.
# Adults are to monitor their children using recreational club boats.
# Paddle boat and rowboat stay in the mooring field while Hobies and Sunfish and Daysailer stay in sight of life guards
in the northern end of the lake.
# Aluminum rowboats at the North and South docks are only for use by boat owners with moored boats. These are not recreational club boats.
# Please be willing to volunteer to help out club directors with a few minutes of your time even if you’re up there to relax.
# Any questions or concerns you can call or email waterfront director from webpage links.

While this summer certainly won't go down as the warmest or driest we've had, here's hoping for a fabulous August!
A few reminders for swimmers: (1) no flotation devices are allowed in the raft section. Swimmers must be competent and confident enough to be in the area without flotation. Please feel free to bring inner-tube-type flotation, swim noodles, and personal rafts into the shallow and middle sections. (2) Swimmers under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or mature designated caregiver when in the swimming area. (3) The maximum number of swimmers (of any size) allowed on the trampoline raft is 4; only 2 may be bouncing at a time. (4) Swimmers must heed the orders of the lifeguards.
Please remember (and remind little ones) to put the noodles, inner tubes, etc. back next to the stairs when they are done using them. We'd rather have the lifeguards watching the swimmers than cleaning up toys and chasing "runaway" inner tubes.
Congratulations to Sasha Darovskikh for successfully completing the lifeguard certification course.
The lifeguards have been busy clearing the seaweed with a homemade invention consisting of a piece of PVC pipe, a length chain, lots of rope and plenty of team work! Very ingenious and also quite effective...plus entertaining to watch! Please remember to thank them for all that they do!
If you have any questions about the swimming area policies or have any ideas for improvement, please feel free to email me or stop for a chat at the lake!
Cheers
Laura

It’s hard to believe the season is so far along. The weather hasn’t exactly cooperated this year and as a result we’ve gotten off to a slow start. The first Sunday we raced was actually the July 4th Col. Peet race, a full month after we should have started. The Col. Peet again took 2 weeks to finish this year due to the wind or lack thereof. Peter Whiting took the honors.
Sailing lessons are winding down with just an adult session remaining. Bob Sloan once again provided a great 2 weeks of fun for the kids with the helpful assistance of Marty and Nancy Fefer. Seems like the kids have more fun each year and it’s great to see the boats out there. Thanks also to Jack Cavanaugh for the use of his boat for the adult classes and Gary Robertson for the use of the Wells College Sunfish.
Hopefully by the time you read, this Summer has actually started. We only have a month or so of formal sailing so come on out. I say this almost every time but how ‘bout those lasers? Weds. Nights are generally shorter courses and on Sundays I can easily create a shorter modified course if I know in advance. I challenge you to get as many Lasers out there as Scots!
     Sundays: 9:30
     Weds: 6:15
Keep an eye on the web page for details on Labor Day.

Opening Night at OYC was a festive event with a full house despite the inclement weather. Father Jim Enright began the blessing inside the clubhouse and younger members joined him to walk the shore to extend the blessing along the waterfront, meanwhile diners held candles inside and on the patio. The John Reilly Band provided entertainment for the evening.
The brunches and special events that Daut's promised have been met with eyes wide open! The buffets have been well-presented with delicious entrees, fruits, salads, pastries and desserts. The restaurant is offering quality food at affordable prices. Daut's OYC Walk-Up Menu is now posted on the OYC website. Many members are enjoying the return of Friday night dinners. No reservations are needed for the Friday night dinner specials - it is self-serve through the window.
Please note the restaurant reservation policy for brunches and special events has been adjusted:
Cash, checks or chits are accepted for payment. Please make checks payable to Daut's (not OYC).
We've had wonderful turnouts for the special events and people still rave about the Elvis Show. Upcoming events are listed in the members handbook and on the August postcard. Look forward to brunches and dinners through the season. Visit the club website for menus, dates, times and details.
The last Ladies Day Luncheon will be September 2nd.
As in the past, we thank you for your suggestions. Daut's and OYC are working to accommodate our members and guests.
The Clubhouse improvements continue - the final corner (NW) post in the clubhouse has been painted, thanks to Hobie Romig.
A catalog is available at the clubhouse for your convenience. Please do not remove this from the premises. It can be found on "the round table in the kitchen area." There is a plastic bag attached containing a pad and pen for your convenience. Choices are not limited; check with The Printery for availability. Think ahead to purchasing some club logo gifts for all occasions, or just for fun.
