Following that will be a buffet featuring grilled steak and chicken sandwiches. Entertainment will be provided by Chris Farrar. August 9th we will be having an evening of hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting. The Rounders will be playing for us on the 18th following a buffet of fried chicken and london broil. You can do this for Friday night dinners also. If you plan on attending a Friday night dinner or a buffet or the wine tasting you must make reservations at least 2 days in advance. You can do this by calling the kitchen (252-7850) or signing up in the clubhouse. We have rescheduled our Gourmet Dinner and Wine Tasting for September 22. Yes, that’s right, September 22!      New news: The north dock has 3 safety upgrades for water rescue;
First- use the reaching pole, Second- the throwing ring (logo design by Margaret Murray)
and Third- go yourself with a floatation device or if time, in one of the club boats. A
ladder will also be installed at the very end of the dock.
An auxiliary dock has been made for access to the club committee boat. Thanks to Steve Vincent and Gary Mason for donating access from their dock.
The south dock beautification project is almost complete, painting prep and two coats of paint to be done-Volunteers?
Reminder: when using the mooring boats, leave the oars out of the locks and on the seats of the boat when not in use. There is a bailing bucket in each boat; use it before going out as you do not need a shifting ballast of water as you are stepping on to your boat. To keep ropes dry, do not leave them on the bottom of the boat.
Please use the sign out book for club boat use other than for mooring boats Please use the sign out book (across from kitchen window) and then report to the lifeguards before you leave and when you get back.
Tips and Reminders
Visitors that boat in to see people are asked to leave their boats on the windward side of the
North dock. Also be considerate of spacing when parking your boat
When Parking for Events, be considerate of the boat trailerers by not parking in their assigned
spots or in the launch ramp turnaround. This has been a problem for the last several events.
This is a stated club policy. Any damage to the boater’s boat, trailer, or car is your fault not
theirs if you chose to park incorrectly.
Keep your boats clean weekly- inside and out. Shore craft owners should empty the water so mosquito
larvas don’t grow in the rainwater.
Boaters and picnickers please leave the shore area cleaner than you found it.
Yellow floats just off shore are for all members to rig or unrig their boats so as not to damage a
neighbor’s boat. Beneath the float are lines to attach to your craft, also good for parking your
boat for a short time.
Bring and wear your life jackets! An attached water proof whistle is a good safety precaution for
all ages.
Adults are to monitor their children using recreational club boats.
Rowboats at the North and South docks are only for use by boat owners with moored boats.
These are not recreational club boats.
Please be willing to volunteer to help out directors with a few minutes / hours of your time.( ie 10 foot rule)
Any questions or concerns call Ralph Estrich at 253-2935 or or email me.

Are we halfway through the season already? It seems as though it has just started. We’ve had nice stretches of steamy weather to motivate us to enjoy the lake, and just recently on a somewhat cooler day, Brigi and I could be seen watching the clouds scuddling by from our cozy spot in sleeping bags on the chaises in the hot box.
The diving raft was treated to a new system of float barrels and anchors this year, thanks to Matt Sloan and Bob Sloan. I don’t know how some things would get done without them. Our trampoline raft tried to take a trip in a heavy wind recently, but thanks to the work of two of our lifeguards, Chelsea Leone and Reagan Cuddy, and our Steward Joanie Macholl, it didn’t get far. We patched it up, and thanks to Preston Chaffee, Matt Valvo (our newest guard), and Jack Wessel, the anchor is rechained and it’s secure again. Thanks, everybody.
Three of our lifeguards will be returning to school during the last week of August, so we will need another guard or two to take us through Labor Day. If anyone out there is available and interested, send them my way (255-0045 or smellencotter@yahoo.com).
Completely off the subject, has everyone else noticed the surge in the populations of red squirrels and chipmunks at the Club this year? They’re especially bold, too, and I’ve heard some funny stories of socks being stolen, stowaways in bags of chips making it into the car and escaping during the trip home, and chipmunks face-down in smoothies. So, with this in mind, come down and test your toes in that water, but keep a lookout for your valuables.

I hope I don’t jinx the rest of the season but so far the winds this year have been the best I can remember in a while. The winds have been challenging and the racing competitive. It’s good to see. We’ve tried to put the marks near the clubhouse on brunch Sundays to provide some early entertainment.
The sailing lessons are complete and we have two special thank you’s to the instructors that them successful. Tony St Phillips has taught the young and grownup for many years. The things he’s done to make the program successfull are too many to list but we all have seen him return the club sunfish from their grave, bring boats in from Wells College for lessons when the participation went up, and devote at least 2 weeks a year to the lessons themselves. Tony has taught most the kids at our club at one time or another and had some returning students this year for the third time. It really showed this year. Their skills and enthusiasm showed both on and off the water and made the club buzz with activity.
In addition to bringing the Wells Fleet for the lessons Tony brought his own personal boats. He acquired 3 Lasers that to add to the lesson fleet. Three fortunate members are now the owners of these boats for continued use at the club. It would be nice to resurrect the stained glass Laser trophy should any of the Laser owners decide to join us for racing.
Tony offered these boats for sale because he’s decided to retire from teaching. I’m not sure
if it has anything to do with the guys being let in at Wells or not but it will be our loss as
well. His legacy will continue with some of the folks who have helped Tony the last few yeas.
Bob Sloan, Marty Fefer, and Ralph Estrich have assisted and are especially welcome as the class
sizes got larger. Bob has agreed to spearhead the program next year so let’s give him some help
if you’re available. Thank you Tony.
We’ve also just completed windsurfing lessons. Sailing member Tom Lepak returned this year to put on another windsurfing class for 10 future windsurfers. Tom is a professional instructor for ABK Boardsports and travels around the country doing what he loves. He donated not only his time but the equipment to learn on. Windsurfing is not an easy sport to learn but Tom’s easy going style, patience and teaching expertise brought everyone up to real windsurfing easily and in a very short time. From Joanie Macholl’s pontoon boat base station anchored a Deauville, everyone got personalized instruction and by the end of the day looked good. To prove it, you can see some these hotdogs on the sailing web page. Thanks Tom
The sailing season’s not over yet so I hope to see more of you sailors with small boats (i.e. Lasers, Sunfish, 14s) etc. There will be very short courses and the ability to switch out sailors/crews if you want. Participation will determine if this is a regular schedule or just a few nights.

The kitchen is again thrilling us with wonderful selections and friendly service. The Ladies Day seems to be drawing players each week to enjoy good food and good company on more comfortable chairs. I hope everyone is adjusting to the new seating!
We are working to make our schedule of events more equally distributed throughout the summer months...although we don't have many to chose from! We are working to make the summers more enjoyable for everyone.
We have many exciting selections in the store. We have polos, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and canvas totes. We are located just outside the kitchen window. The gals in the kitchen would be happy to take your payment. The prices are on the cases and on the items. If there is anything you would like to see in the store, please let me know. See you at the window.

It's the end of July and all the buildings of
the club are still there waiting for some work to be
done.
We have made some progress on the smaller items. We installed a fire extinguisher in the garage, repaired part of the roof fascia and soffit at the steward's cabin, and finally, the long awaited roof replacement of the bunk house if tentatively scheduled for the week of July 23.
The next small projects on the agenda: replacement of all outside electrical receptacles along the perimeter of the clubhouse, repair of the north wall of the garage and some miscellaneous painting.
The one big item remaining is the encasement of the clubhouse roof fascia boards with aluminum or vinyl. This project, if it goes through, will be expensive and will require an outside contractor.
Well, enjoy the rest of the summer, and if any one has noticed a need for any improvements, please let me or any other board member know!!
