We are working hard, as I write this (5/25), to be ready for our GRAND OPENING PARTY and Blessing of the Boats on June16th. A week earlier this year....no "soft" opening. WE are ANXIOUS!      Be certain to go to our website, read your postcards, your WINDWARD,and postings in the Club House. If you don't know what is happening at your Club,...it's your fault.
Please be a conscientious member and clean up after yourself, ALWAYS.....some members and guests feel the Butler comes in, especially after an event, and picks up your bottles etc. NOT SO! It leaves another member to pick up your leavings. Educate your children as well. Your diligence in this area will be most appreciated.
Our kitchen will have some improvements with new counters, sinks etc. Kendra will have some Italian food and the pizza oven will be ,hot, hot, hot this season...by popular request. Check out the new chairs in the Club House as well.
Be sure to find out what the new swim hours are and to check when swimming lessons will begin. Our Lifeguards are excellent teachers at all levels. Sailing lessons start last week in June and continue through the first week in July with time off for the 4th.
We have an excellent staff and Board that I am extremely proud to be a part of. Two new additions to our Board as assistants are: Mary Rita Carnicelli, working with Val McKenzie and Beth Butera, assisting Louise Wilson and Rich Knaul with whatever they need. WE look forward to working with these gals for their fresh ideas, opinions, and expertise. Welcome Ladies!
I am anxiously awaiting our opening to see everyone again, especially the kiddos, who usually change so much over the winter.
NOTE:I have a new e-mail address (finally went wireless) adelekeegan@yahoo.com
If your e-mail has changed, you just got one, or the one on the web is incorrect, please let Hobie know.
Let me know if your have any thoughts on how to make things better at the Club or tell me about something you think is working well. Your comments are always appreciated.
May I close with: WELCOME NEW MEMBERS! and see you all very soon.
Have fun,be safe and....relax at YOUR CLUB.

New members late last summer were Phil & Polly Losito and Paul & Ramola Piwinski, d Frank & Sue Ambrosie returned to the Club after many years absence. Other new members are David & Lauri Heath, Jim & Judy Coye with children Jenny and Ryan, and Kevin & Bridgette Dautrich and son Griffin. Matt Sloan is now an Intermediate Member and Derek MacKenzie is a new Junior member. We welcome them aboard and hope they have many years enjoyment at the Owasco Yacht Club.
On a less positive note we have had four resignations and four requests for a leave of absence and we have not heard a word from four members.
Remember, the treasurer is responsible for maintaining an accurate membership list. I can only do that with your help. Please let me know when there have been additions to your family and when a son or daughter has left the nest. Since I very seldom receive word when a child is over 21 and has finished college I usually drop them after their 21st birthday. At the end of the summer I receive from the waterfront director a list of members who have had boats on shore, a rack, a mooring, or a trailer and I compare that with what I billed in the spring. Please make sure the waterfront director knows which boat is yours.

OYC Boatlift Wait List

Thank you to all of the club members that have volunteered especially Tony St. Phillips and Jim Kushe. If you are able to volunteer during the season, please call or email me. The waterfront has a number of club boats available for member use: a paddleboat, a canoe and a red kayak marked OYC, two Sunfish, two Hobie 14s with their sails in the long tubes under them, and the ODay daysailor. Use the 2 yellow ball buoys tethered in shallow water in front of the shore boats to tie, loop, or clip your sailboat while you trim it. Please plan and ask ahead of time for help launching or rigging. Put your name on the boat signout sheet near the kitchen window and notify the lifeguard when you take the boat out and after you return the boat.
Parental supervision is required for all youth sailors! All sailors need to watch the weather conditions, as the club is not responsible for the actions and choices of its members. Everyone will always wear a life jacket because the winds shift quickly on any lake.
Please report any equipment problems or broken items, etc, to the steward or myself: phone, note, or email. A lot of time and money is spent preparing and maintaining the waterfront equipment. For broken oars, see the steward who will get another one all ready to go from the garage. Then call or email me to report it so a replacement can be ordered.
The club boats not available for general member use are the two aluminum rowboats, the fiberglass lifeguard rowboat, and the committee powerboat. The aluminum rowboats located by the north and south docks are for use by those needing to get to their moored boats. They are to be used and returned to their spot for the next person to use. A lifejacket is in each boat for your safety! The fiberglass rowboat for the swim area is required by law for lifeguard use only. The committee powerboat is for club maintenance, emergencies, and the racing program.
Boat trailer parking in the upper field starts back 100 feet from the club driveway. The first 100 feet accommodates boats that are not able to get on moorings or lifts by June 1st The lakeside of the south parking lot is for those paying the trailering fee. The hill side of the parking lot is for car parking. After June 1st, members not paying a trailering fee need to park their boat in the upper field. Please use wooden blocks provided by the entrance of the field to secure your trailer. Do not use rocks, etc, which can chip or bend the mower blades.
Please remember to take pride in the waterfront of our club:
Please contact Ralph Estrich for any hoist, mooring, and shore waiting list requests:

Spring has now arrived (I think), so put away the snow shovel, and come on down and enjoy the waterfront. Our annual spring clean-up was a great success. The turnout was the best that I can remember. The saying goes: Many hands make light work. Well, it may not seem lighter, but we got a lot more of it done. Things are in great shape as we move forward. Thank you.
Like last year, the “big ticket items”, the docks, were contracted out, which left us to focus on the finer aesthetics of the club. Aside from the routine stuff we like to do, we will have other tasks that may require better weather, or more than one day to complete. Last year Adele posted a listing of the odd jobs on the board, and the response was very positive, and I believe that gave people a feeling of  “I can do that - but not right now”. We will create a new list this year, and I hope the members will respond like last year.
There were many improvements last season. Some of them were very noticeable, however many were not. This year may be similar. Please contact me with any problems, or any ideas you may have.
Joan Machol will again be our club steward. With the place in “ship shape”, and with a year of experience behind her, the grounds will be in good hands. Thanks Joan.
Enjoy...

It feels like midsummer already, and it’s great to see so many members enjoying the Club preseason. The place is abuzz with people getting everything ready for the season, and we have two people to thank especially for (as they do every year) going above and beyond in the swimming area. Bob and Matt Sloan have been refurbishing the raft, putting in swimming lines, and leveling the dock, and Matt will be diving to rechain the raft anchor soon. We wouldn’t pass the state Dept. of Environmental Health inspection without their hard work.
We have four returning lifeguards this summer: Chelsea Leone, Reagan Cuddy, Danny Keegan, and Preston Chaffee. The guards all have Lifeguard, Waterfront, CPR, and First Aid certifications, so they are on duty to assist members with any injuries received anywhere on the grounds. The lifeguards will be manning the swimming area from noon until 9 p.m. from Opening Day until July 31st and from noon until 8 p.m. throughout August. Swimming lessons will be offered by one of the lifeguards for two weeks during the season as well; look for information and sign-up sheets in the Clubhouse.
Please keep in mind that our guards are on duty for our swimming safety. All our swimmers must heed the warnings of the guards and follow Club rules as they are posted. A few of the most important reminders: (1) Parents must accompany children under 12 years of age to the swimming area. (2) There also is no diving allowed from the dock or the trampoline raft. The water is too shallow for safe diving. (3) Water shoes are a necessity if one is planning on standing anywhere in the water. The zebra mussels are still there and apparently always will be. (4) There are only four swimmers allowed on the trampoline raft and only two people are to be bouncing at one time. Swimmers are not allowed to jump off either raft from the side farthest from the lifeguard chair; they’re not able to see swimmers in the water on that side. (5) Swimming is not allowed when a lifeguard is not on duty.
So restock that picnic basket, say goodbye to the house voices that whisper that the laundry pile is getting higher or the bushes need trimming, and come listen to the waves and the cottonwood leaves in the breeze. There’s no better place…
Ellen

We’ve got anther season planned after the sailing meeting in early May. We lost a couple of boats but gained also. New sailors are always welcome. Crew is often needed so stop on a Sunday or Wednesday night to check it out. The Sunday series starts at 9:30 and the Weds night fun series at 6:15. In addition to racing, we’ve planned a lunch sail to Cascade and a Full Moon sail. If anyone would like to assist with a chase (power) boat for one of these events please cal or email me. Keep an eye on the sailing web page for sailing calendar and the racing updates.
Tony St Phillips will again be instructing the sailing lessons and has even brought along a few Laser sailboats to assist. Dates are June 25th through July 6th. 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00pm. No weekends or holiday classes are scheduled. You can contact Tony for more detail. His effort is always appreciated.
The Col. Peet July 4th event will be on Sunday and Wednesday this year due to where the 4th falls. One of the days will be long distance around the Lake buoy.
     See you on the water.
