The weather is finally being nice to us; sunbathers and sailors alike. Thanks so much for all of the help on "Clean up Day"....the Club took on a new glow after all of your hard work. Members enjoyed the lunch sandwiches from Betty's Lakeside and asked where I had them made. We still have some small jobs to do; staining picnic tables,(see Pete Whiting at the store for supplies),pavers to be set in place along fence, maybe some flower pots in playground area??? See Tom Graber for more suggestions.

The deadline has passed for all dues to have been paid. As of June 12 there are 16 members not fully paid. Of the 16 there are 6 who never made the first deadline. Years ago the treasurer used to post the names of members who were delinquent. Please folks, let this be a reminder. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to give me a call or an email.
The assessment issue still is up in the air. We have talked to the Town and again this year went before the assessment review board. David Tehan represented the Owasco Yacht Club and made a convincing argument (at least from our point of view) as to why our assessment should be lower than it is. To date we have not had a response from the review board. We will keep you posted.
This is especially for new members and a reminder to all other members that the OYC Constitution says that the TREASURER is responsible for maintaining an accurate list of all members. Please, if you have an address change, phone number change, email address change or family status change (the addition of children or the transition of children from dependant, still in college to the over 21 should be on their own status or any other changes) please let me know. The other area where I refuse to guess (been stung a few times) is when a member crosses the senior member threshold. Please check the Yearbook for membership criteria and let me know if there should be any changes or if you have any questions.
Again, one way to keep dues manageable is for all members to pitch in where they can. Please contact any Board member if you can help out with any of our Club projects.
Have an enjoyable and safe summer,
Rich Knaul

June 18th.
Official Opening: June 25th.
Finally we are getting the great weather that we so deserve! Along with that we have a great evening planned for our official opening of the club. Did you get your postcard with the list of events for June and July? If not please e-mail me and I will make sure you get the next one. I put mine right on the refrigerator so I can remember the dates! Speaking of dates, there was a misprint on the postcard. The official opening is on SATURDAY, June 24, not Friday. Sorry about that! Please remember to call ahead to the kitchen for reservations for dinners/brunches. Can’t make dinner? You can still join us on the deck for music!

This year’s Waterfront has even more to appeal to those interested in kayaking as the long awaited kayak rack is on order and will be set up on the south end shore. The paddleboat donated last year by Adele K. is ship shape. Thanks to Tony St.Phillip’s continued care, the two donated club Sunfish are in beautiful shape and ready for your enjoyment. Now members can chaperone a beginning sailor or even race the buoys with a friend between Martin’s Point and the club’s markers. Tony also has the Oday Daysailor in top shape to cruise the lake with two or three friends. Please plan and ask ahead for help launching or rigging. Don’t forget our two popular catamaran style Hobbie 14’s that are ready to pull in the water. Their sails are located in the large long black plastic tubes under them. Again please call ahead if there is a need for assistance. For the youngsters starting out, the five ever-popular white prams located on grassy hill are light, small sailed and fun to sail. Please inform the lifeguard or sign out in clubhouse before using any club sailboats.
Parental supervision is required for all youth sailors! All sailors need to watch the weather conditions, as the club is not responsible for the actions and choices of its members. Everyone will always wear a life jacket as the winds shift quickly on any lake. There are sailing lessons going on at Skaneateles CC.
Please report any equipment problems, etc, to the steward or myself: phone, note, or email so Tony can be alerted. A lot of time and money is spent preparing and maintaining the waterfront equipment. A broken oar? See the steward who will get one all ready to go from the garage. Then call me to report it.
The other club boats are the three rowboats and the committee powerboat. The rowboats located by the north and south docks and are for use by those needing to get to their moored boats. Please wear a lifejacket! They are to be used and returned to their spot for the next person to use. The third rowboat for the swim area is required by law for lifeguard use only. The committee powerboat is for club maintenance, emergencies, and the racing program. It is not open for members’ use.
Fishing is allowed off the two boating docks when it does not obstruct boaters who have preference over the docks. Poles, tackle boxes, and /or buckets cannot be left on the docks. Please no casting while boaters are using the dock. Boaters have first priority.
This year empty boat trailer parking in the upper field starts back 70 feet from the club driveway. The first 70 feet will accommodate boats that are not able to get on moorings or lifts yet and keep the south parking lot open for those paying the trailering fee and member parking. Please use wooden blocks provided by the entrance of the field to secure your trailer. Do not use rocks, etc, which can chip or bend the mower blades. The parking area south of the steward’s cabin is reserved for those paying trailing fees only. Those boats waiting to be moored, needing more time for: repairs, replacements, schedules, etc., should have your boat in the upper field from June on.
Please remember to take pride in our club by:
· Leaving your picnic site cleaner than you found it.
· Picking up drifted-in trash to keep the shore line neat
· Draining rain water regularly out of your shore boats
· Scrubbing off dirt and debris often from your shore boats
Please contact me for any hoist, mooring, and shore waiting list requests.
Questions please call Ralph at 253-2935 or Peter Whiting at 252-2709

The new dock is partially in, thanks to all who arrived at 7 a.m. on Sunday the 5th of June. They assembled the dock pieces and floated them over on the committee boat and set them in place. We don’t need the dock complete to tell how wonderful it’s going to be this summer. It’s much wider and will still have a railing along the south edge, so there won’t be the need to hug the edges when passing one another. We’re shooting to have it finished by the unofficial opening day, but are waiting for the dock dealer to deliver the final pieces.
We have several returning guards this year: Alison Sloan, Cassie Janis, Chelsea Leone, Reagan Cuddy, and Matt Sloan. Our new guards are Candice Elliott and Dan Keegan. Our first lifeguards’ meeting on the 8th proved they’re ready and enthusiastic. Even one of our substitute guards (Ed Beck) showed up. The guards all have Lifeguard, Waterfront, CPR, and First Aid certifications, so they are on duty to assist members with injuries received anywhere on the grounds. Remember to thank them for all the work they do getting the swimming area ready before Opening Day.
Our guards will be on duty from 11:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. during June (after the offical Opening Day) and August and from 11:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. during July. We may need to reduce hours once the college-bound guards are off to school, but we would do that on the early end of the day.
Please keep in mind that our guards are on duty for our swimming safety. All our swimmers must heed the warnings of the guards and follow Club rules as they are posted. The guards are constantly counting swimmers and keeping track of their movements, so chatting with them (or otherwise distracting them) should be done when there are no swimmers in the water. The number of swimmers allowed on the trampoline raft is up to the judgement of the guards, but we allow only two people to be bouncing at one time. Swimmers are not allowed to jump off either raft from the side farthest from the lifeguard chair; they’re not able to see swimmers in the water on that side. We’ve relaxed the rule regarding eating in the swimming area a bit, but please be mindful of the other member s and be sure to tidy up your area before you leave. The guards will be taking mid-shift breaks as needed (one per shift) and will post a sign at the top of the stairs leading to the swimming area when they are not on duty. Swimming is not allowed when a lifeguard is not on duty.
With the recent heat, the water should warm up in record time, so check those floaties and get your water shoes and we’ll see ya down there.

For the last month the focus has been to finish up the work not completed from last years toilet room renovations. At both toilet faculities the following improvements were made: floor tile patchwork completed, rubber base installed around shower enclosure, epoxy floor finish applied at shower drying area, grab bars installed in tiolet stalls, clothes hooks installed, broken window glass replaced. I'm working on fixing and painting the wooden mirror and should have it installed in the men's toilet room before you read this article. Finishing the ceiling tile installation on the men's side is also targeted for this summer.
The carpet in the club house was professionally steamed cleaned, but some stubborn stains still exist due to being set in for a long period of time. We will be looking at budget figures to possibly replace all existing carpet in the near future.
We will also be looking at budgeting for window and door replacements for the club house and door replacement for the toilet rooms.
This is it for now. If you have any thoughts for improvements please let me know when you see me at the club or call 253-9404.
