Is it time yet? Can't wait to be at the Club. Wintering in Florida is okay, but there is nothing,I repeat NOTHING like a summer day at OYC. I am READY!
Your Board has been meeting and planning all winter..They include me by conference call and speaker phone, with Commodore- elect, Peter Whiting running the meeting. Thanks Pete for,as always, a job well done.
We have been working on bringing our Constitution up to date. Looking over Club procedures, rules and methods as they apply to today's world. We hope to have it ready for approval at the next annual meeting.
We are also trying to identify and priortize projects that need to be completed around the Club. We have been obtaining estimates on each project to see what our budget can sustain.
Some of the things we are looking at are:
1.Chairs for dining room
2.KITCHEN: stainless steel shelving and counters,3 well and
handwashing sinks,new dishwasher
3.work on mole
4.Paving and widening roadways
5.Two more wooden adirondak chairs
6.12 plastic chairs
7.Sand or woodchips for kiddos playground
8.Clean sand for sandbox
If you have any concerns or ideas please contact me.
As ever,
See you at cleanup.

As of today, April 1, 79 % of our members have responded either with full or partial payments, a letter of resignation or a request for a leave of absence (this is the same percentage as last year). I sent out 195 bills in February. So far we have had 3 resignations, and we have gained three new members – David and Lauri Heath, Phil and Polly Losito, Paul and Ramola Piwinski. We are waiting to hear from two other possible new members. Remember, the balance of your dues is due by May 31. Please do not wait until May 31 to send them.
If you know someone who would like to join the Club please submit their name and family information to and our secretary, Louise Wilson. Since our membership stands at 195 so we have room for at least five new members.
Remember, it the responsibility of the treasurer to maintain an accurate membership list. PLEASE let me know if there have been any changes in your family, your telephone number, or your email address. Also please let me know when you reach the age of 60 and qualify for a senior category membership. Please make changes before May 1 so that the Yearbook contains accurate information.
The Board has not settled on any capital improvements for the Club at this time. However, we have discussed work in the kitchen, more paving, covering the facia around the building with aluminum, concrete deck repairs/replacement around the Club House. The high water in the fall coupled with wave action from the west has done some damage to the seawall north of the mole. The Club appears to have come through the winter without any serious damage.
We will turn the water on just as soon as possible (hopefully by the middle of April). You will know the water is on when the bathroom doors are left unlocked. As always, if you see anything amiss around the Club and you are unable to take care of the problem please let one of the Board members know. We are looking forward having Joan Macholl back again this year.
Think spring and it won’t be long and before we will be able to enjoy the best kept secret on Owasco Lake.

Spring Cleanup Day
Saturday, May 19th @ 9:00 AM.
Rain Date May 20th.
Opening Day
Saturday, June 16th.
1st Ladies' Day
Wednesday, June 27th.
1st Friday Night Dinner
Friday, June 29th.

It’s official…the club opening will be June 16th! This is one week earlier than we usually “officially” open, therefore we will not be having a soft opening. Some other dates for you to mark on your calendar are…June 27, that will be the first Ladies Day, and June 29, that will be the first Friday Night Dinner. We have an awesome line-up of entertainment planned for you this summer and I bet you’re anxious to hear it. Well…you’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer. As I write this we are still waiting on some details to be finalized, once this happens we’ll be ready to party at the club!
We really would like to hear your thoughts about the club’s entertainment. We try to have a variety of music throughout the summer so that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
See you on June 16th if not sooner (like May 19th for clean-up day…there’s something for everyone to do!!!)

Welcome to a new season! Be ready for a summer of Fun. Our waterfront is one of the most visual and visited areas to members on shore and wantabes on the lake. As members, we take pride on the club’s appearance, and to maintain it again this year, please call or email me to volunteer for the following Waterfront Jobs:
Before Clean Up Day - putting in hoists, staining north dock, maintaining mole, sanding and painting parts of the south dock and one of the mooring boats, dropping in the 3 mooring buoys.
On Clean Up Day - cleaning shoreline debris for small boat skids, and carrying club boats down to the shore. We’ve hired professionals to put all three docks in and out this year. The club requires that all members’ boats using the facilities be identified with the club sticker- a good safety feature for owners. New boat owners need to provide their own visible identification until they are given an official sticker. Trailers, lifts, buoys and skids need to be clearly identified also in case of an emergency. Contact me with the boat and trailer registration information.
Boat placement is at the waterfront director’s approval. The club has waiting lists for hoist, shore, and mooring spaces. New requests please send a dated letter or email me through the link below. The club provides rowboats at the north and south docks for access to member’s moored boats only. Take it easy rowing! Row shallow! Call me or email me if an oar breaks so I can begin the process of replacing it.
*The empty boat trailer parking in the upper field starts back 70 feet from the club driveway. This will accommodate boats that are not able to get on moorings or lifts and keeps the south parking lot open for member parking. Please use wooden blocks provided by the entrance of the field to secure your trailer. To make mowing easier, do not use rocks, etc, which can chip or bend the blades of the mower if left in the tall grass, and please place chocks back by the entrance if you leave the upper field for any reason.
The lake side of the parking area south of the steward’s cabin is reserved only for those paying trailing fees. Owners whose boats are waiting to be moored, have till May 31st to get their boats in the water. Members that need more time for: repairs, replacements, schedules, etc., need to put their boats in the upper field.
Any suggestions you have to make the waterfront better call Ralph Estrich at 253-2935 or email at

The days are perceptibly longer and I saw the first robin in the yard the second week in March. I see the goldfinches still in their winter plumage and am waiting for that cheering bright yellow to tell me that summer is just around the corner. It can’t be long before those OYC members we see but don’t quite recognize in Wegmans in their winter plumage will be recognizable in their summer outfits at the Club.
So here it is, April, and I will be lining up lifeguards for summer duty very soon. I hold out the hope that every one of our guards from last summer will return, but there is a good possibility that we will have room for a part-time (about 15 hours/week) guard or two. If you or someone you know is interested in lifeguarding at the best yacht club in Central New York, please either email (smellencotter@yahoo.com) or call (255-0045) with a request for an application. Lifeguards must be current on all of the certifications (First Aid, CPR, Waterfront Lifeguarding) before the season begins.
Hope to see you at Spring Clean-Up Day!
Ellen

I don’t know about you folks but I’m ready for spring. I’ll plan another sailing get together in early May to plan the season. I’ll send out a note to the sailors, let me know if you want to be included. We’ll have the usual events along with a new one or two. Hopefully we’ll be able to start memorial weekend like we have the past few years. Plans at present, in no particular order, are Summers series Col. Peet July 4th, Sail to Cascade for lunch, windsurfing clinic, Full Moon night sail, Labor day races and anything else you folks want to do. Once the details firm up, I’ll put everything on the sailing calendar.
     See you all Memorial Weekend.

We are all so excited about the plans for the kitchen this year. We are so fortunate to have Kendra and her Staff returning again this year. We all enjoyed her first year and she has wonderful plans for the coming season.
We are planning some renovations in the kitchen area that will make working there more efficient and fun for the staff. New shelving and tables will be installed and hopefully a new dishwasher.
We have a good “lead” on new chairs for the dinning room. They will be stacking and all the same color. We may even be getting some new tables!
We are in the process of planning our special events, but put JUNE 16th on your calendar. We are planning the opening party for that evening. Friday night dinners will start June 29th. Ladies Day will start June 27th.
Please email us if you have any suggestions, or ideas you would like us to consider.
We will again open the Ship’s Store at the club. We are in the process of evaluating the needs of our members. We will have our T’s, polo’s and hoodie’s available starting on clean-up. Look for more information to come in the Windward.

The position of buildings director is very new to me, but I will try to do a good job. I have been around the club for, many years, but never looked at our buildings with a very critical eye. Now I will have to and I intend to do so.
I inherited a list of small and large projects, but due to an overwhelming amount of snow this winter ,have been unable to personally analyze them. Spring will hopefully change that.
That said however, if any of the members have a concern or see a need for any improvements please feel free to either e-mail or phone me at (315) 253-8100.
Looking forward to a working season. and I certainly hope that all the good volunteers in the past will be able to assist me to get the job done.
