Swimming at Owasco Yacht Club
The Swimming Director is responsible for supervision and scheduling of lifeguards, swim dock and lines, rafts and lifeguard boat.

In the event of a thunderstorm, lifeguards will clear the water of swimmers. Swimmers are allowed to re-enter the water only after a minimum of 30 minutes has passed since the last thunder was heard or lightning was observed.

Swimming Rules
- Swimming is not allowed when lifeguards are not on duty.
- All Club members must heed the instructions of the lifeguards.
- Swimming is restricted to the marked swimming areas.
- A swimming test, given by the lifeguard staff, is required for swimmers younger than 18 years of age before they are allowed in the deep swim area.
- Personal flotation devices are not allowed in the deep swim area including Coast Guard approved life jackets. They are allowed in the middle section with an adult within arm's reach.
- A swimming area for non-swimmers and children is marked by the first set of swimming markers from the shore.
- Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Running and sunbathing are not permitted on the swim dock. There is an area reserved for sunbathing next to the lifeguard area.
- Throwing stones and feeding of ducks and other wildlife is not permitted in the swim area.
- It is recommended that swimmers always swim with a partner.
- It is recommended that all swimmers wear foot protection in the shallow and middle sections of the swim area.
- Wear appropriate swimwear.
