After railroad was built in 1869 it became a stop for the Southern Cnetral RR with a freight and ticket office, store and ice house.

The flourishing Cascade Hotel was located at this soon to be rail stop.

The fourth floor had a large ballroom.
In 1869 the Sewards and the Pomeroys spent the summer at Cascade to avoid the railroad construction crew based at their old hangout at Ensenore.
The ballroom was used as a meeting room by religious group that believed in contact with the dead, the Spiritualists. The most renounded of this group were the Fox sisters who were from north of Canandaigua.
