Burtis Point

East Side Owasco Lake
Approx Location 42º 51' 39" N 76º 30' 43" W to 42º 51' 31" N 76º 30' 23" W

Most prominent Point on Owasco Lake. It is an alluvial plain formed by the action of Dutch Hollow Brook.

     Originally called Brinkerhoff's Point.
Brinkerhoff Brothers, Roeliff, Like and Jocob, owned much of the farmland in this area.
     Site of the first church in Cayuga County, which was built from logs.
     Church relocated to a more central location at the north end of lake and was the Reformed Dutch Church at Owasco (Sand Beach Church) and is currently serving a Mennonite congregation.
     Mr. Burtis, an Auburn Brewer purchased the point.


Butis' Home on South Side of the Point

     He built a race track at the point.
     North side of point was developed into a row of summer homes.

Southern Side of Burtis Point Today with Dutch Hollow Brook just to the left of the red brick house.
