About Owasco Yacht Club

Picture
Owasco Yacht Club originated in 1892 as a way to promote sailing and racing on Owasco Lake. Many of Auburn's most prestigious families were among the founding members including W. H. Seward, H. E. Case, P. W. Pomeroy and the first Owasco Yacht Club Commodore, Colonel F. T. Peet.

Today the Club continues it's mission, providing a social and recreational association for its members to enjoy Owasco Lake with an emphasis on boating, sailing, and waterfront activities.

The Club is located on beautiful Owasco Lake, State Route 38A, just outside of Auburn, New York. The Club owns approximately 9 acres          of land which includes 630 feet of lakefront.

Owasco Yacht Club is a private club with access restricted to members only and their invited guests. Club amenities include a swimming area, picnic area, clubhouse, and a variety of Club-owned watercraft.

Shady picnic areas on both the north and south ends of the property are equipped with picnic tables and fireplaces. Younger children have a playground consisting of tetherball, a slide, swings, a sand box and a play set with climbing ropes, a climbing wall and slide.

The Club is officially open from the middle of June thru Labor Day.
Check the Club Calendar for official dates and events.

How to Become a Member

The OYC is a member-owned Club and new members must be "sponsored for membership" by a current member who has completed at least one calendar year of membership and is in good standing (current dues fully paid).
Additional information is found on the "Membership" tab and by clicking on the "Sponsorship Info" drop-down menu.

What If You Don't Have a Sponsor?
The OYC is aware that some well qualified, prospective members may be new to the area or do not know a current member who can sponsor them for membership.  The Club has a membership development program for those who need assistance with sponsorship.  If you are interested in membership but do not know a potential sponsor, click here for additional information.
